Primary Care Pediatrics was established in June 2000 by Janice Algea, MD. She has practiced in Millington for over 30 years. Generations of patients have entrusted their care to her.

At Primary Care Pediatrics, we take a family centered approach to the care of your child and treat them as if they were our own. Our core values are compassion, integrity, excellence and service.

Your Providers
Janice S. Algea, MD

Doctor Janice grew up as a missionary kid in Asuncion, Paraguay, South America where her parents helped found the Baptist Hospital. Her father, Dr. William Skinner, was a pediatrician and church planter to the Paraguayans and local indigenous peoples. She left her home in South America at age 18 and attended Belmont College in Nashville, TN. There she was inducted into the Epsilon Honor Society and also served as president of the Women’s Self Governing Association. At graduation she received the Walter Hale Award for Best All-Round student and her Bachelor of Science Degree.

She then attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine where she earned her Doctor's degree in Medicine. This was followed by a Pediatric internship and residency at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.

Afterwards, she worked for Pediatrics Associates and then the Memphis Shelby County Health Department. She later joined her husband in providing medical care in Millington, then an underserved community. They turned a small duplex home at the corner of Navy Road and Harold Street into a medical clinic. On one side Dr. Janice saw the children and on the other side, Dr. Bill saw the adults. They later incorporated into Peabody Healthcare Group but when the company closed, Doctor Janice continued to serve her patients by opening and operating Primary Care Pediatrics. The practice has continued to grow over the last 17 years.

Doctor Janice is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. She’s won the Pediatrician of the Year, Reader's Choice Award by the Millington Star on multiple occasions.

She’s happily married for 40 years and is blessed to have three sons David, Roy and Christopher. She also delights in having 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.

She is also active in serving her church and community. She teaches Awanas at Crossspointe Baptist Church and serves as Auxiliary President of the Gideon’s International Millington Camp. In her free time she enjoys flower gardening, fishing, making home grown blueberry jam, and feeding and watching hummingbirds.
